Implant-Retained Overdentures

Implants can be utilized in patients missing some or all of their teeth. Implants provide support and stability for your complete or partial denture. There are a couple different ways that implants can be used.

Locator Attachment Overdenture

One implant retained denture option is to have between two and four implants placed and a denture made that snaps onto the implants. This treatment option involves either altering the underside of your existing denture to house retention inserts or fabricating a new denture that has retention inserts incorporated into it. The retention inserts are customizable allowing you and Dr. Taylor to pick the most comfortable and stable fit for you. As with all removable replacement teeth, you will still need periodic appointments for denture adjustments as well as needing to occasionally replace the retention inserts.

Bar Supported Overdenture

Another implant retained denture option involves placing four to six implants, depending on your jaw size or shape. After healing is complete, the implants are connected with a custom-made titanium support bar. Again, the underside of your denture will be made with special retention inserts and clips that attach onto the support bar enabling the denture to snap firmly into place. The advantage of this option is that it is much more stable and allows very little denture movement. Your denture is still removable for easy cleaning and maintenance. These dentures will still need periodic denture adjustments as well as the occasional replacement of the retention inserts and clips.
